PROVIDENCE HARBOR AFIRE.

EXPLOSION ON TEXAS OIL BARGE HARRISON -- TWO MEN HURT -- LOSS 180,000 GALLONS -- VALUE $50,000.

Providence, R. I., July 10. -- A drifting barge sent forth frequent explosions from her cargo of burning oil and a quarter of a square mile of the harbor waters smoke from the same cause endangering the entire water front and shipping of this port today.
Beginning shortly after midnight, the Texas oil barge Harrison, loaded with 180,000 gallons of oil, burned furiously, destroying the company's wharf and several of its buildings, besides scorching several of the craft in the harbor. The danger was over at sunset tonight, only when the oil had been entirely burned and the barge was burned to the water's edge. The loss is estimated at $50,000.
Capt. FREDERICK MAY and ALBERT DENNIS, who were on the Harrison at the time of the explosion and were severely injured were reported tonight to be improving.
