Newport, RI Storm, Jul 1866

THE THUNDER STORM which passed over our city Wednesday was in season to catch the fashionables on the road, and although horses were put to their best time, many a fine garment was ruined. We hear of no damage resulting from the tempest, and of but two places where the lightning struck. The Perry Mill lost a piece of gutter and some glass was broke at the house of Mr. Thomas Weaver at the Neck. On the Island there were several places struck, but no material damage done.
