FATAL FIRE IN PROVIDENCE.
One Life Lost and $125,000 Damage in Flint & Co.'s Factory.
PROVIDENCE, Dec. 2.---One of the most disastrous fires that have visited this city for some time occurred late this afternoon, when a blaze was discovered in Flint & Co.'s furniture establishment. It started from a lighted match or cigarette thrown into a pile of excelsior by a careless porter.
The fire swept up the freight elevator shaft to the roof and filled the entire structure, four stories high, with smoke. There were forty employes[sic] in the building, including several women, and they were rescued with difficulty. After the fire had been extinguished the firemen found the body of SAMUEL BERG, a Swede, twenty years old, three feet from one of the front windows. He had been overcome by smoke.
The damage to the building and stock is estimated at $125,000, covered by insurance.
