Providence, RI Fitzgerald Building Fire, Jul 1900
Big Jewelry Fire in Providence.
PROVIDENCE, R. I., July 6.---Fire in the Fitzgerald Building, corner of Friendship and Eddy Streets, to-day caused a loss estimated at $100,000. The building was of six stories, and the fire practically destroyed the two top floors. The origin of the fire has not been discovered. The loss to the building was about $25,000. E. L. Lougee estimates his damage at $30,000; Catlow Brothers, $10,000; E. R. Barker, between $5,000 and $10,000, and George H. Holmes, $30,000. The firms are all engaged in manufacturing jewelry. They carried no insurance.
