THREE KILLED; FOUR INJURED

Passenger Train Runs Into Open Switch and Crashes Into Another

Newcastle Pa Jan 15—Three persons were killed and four seriously hurt when Baltimore & Ohio passenger train No. _____ today ran into an open switch near this city and switched over to the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie track, crashing into train No. 501 from Pittsburgh. The trains met head on and both engines and baggage cars were wrecked. The dead:

James A. Smith, fireman, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, Newcastle
James Gannon, engineer of the B & O, Newcastle
David Cunningham, fireman, B & O, Pittsburgh

The four injured were trainmen.
