Covington, PA Lamp Explosion, Jul 1916

Lamp Exploded, Causing Fire.

Last Friday night about 11 o'clock as Mrs. Clara C. Emberger, of Covington township, was about to retire the lamp which she was carrying exploded in her hand, scattering the blazing oil on her dress and about the room. Fortunately she retained her presence of mind and after extinguishing the blaze on her clothing she ran to the home of her neighbor, Clyde Wheeler, who came to her assistance and they soon squelched the flames. Three rooms and their furnishings were badly damaged by fire and smoke. The loss is estimated at about $300.
