Boy Drowned At Greenville.

He Got Into Deep Water And Perished Before Help Could Reach Him.

ELDER S. FOWLER , a 13-year-old son of ARCHIE FOWLER, of Greenville, was drowned in the mill damn or Rugh & Fowler, at that place, last Wednesday evening about 7 o'clock.

Together with two younger companions, he went to the damn to swim. Entering the water near the breast of the damn, where the bank is very steep, he soon got beyond his depth and a strong under-current pulled him under. The boys on the bank summoned a larger boy who was passing, but before he reached the scene the FOWLER boy had gone down for the last time. The alarm was sounded and the men from the mill and stores let the water out of the dam. The body was recovered by Thomas Stevens. Mr. Fowler and his wife, who were at their farm a short distance from the town, were setnt for and arrived before the body was found.

The funeral was held on Friday in the U. P. Church, Rev. Henry Webb officiating. A large crowd was in attendance and the casket was covered with flowers. The remains were interred at the old Harmony graveyard.

Elder Fowler was the oldest child of the family, three children, two girls and a boy, surviving. The parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. They desire to express their thanks to the citizens of that community for their many kindnesses during this sad period.
