Pilot Killed, 3 Hurt In Crash
COATESVILLE, Pa. (AP)--- The pilot was killed and three passengers injured Saturday night when a single engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Downingtown Airport.
Pilots who witnessed the crash told state police the plane climbed about 75 feet, appeared to start a left turn, lost flying speed and crashed into a cornfield nose first.
The passengers were thrown clear, but the pilot, CHARLES DOUGHERTY, about 50, of West Chester, was pinned in the wreckage until rescuers reached him. Ther was no fire. He was pronounced dead at Coatesville Hospital.
