Heidlersburg, PA Horse Accident, Nov 1858

Shocking Accident.

We regret to learn of the sudden death of MR. DANIEL S. MARTZ, of Huntington township, on Wednesday last. He was riding on the State Road, a short distance north of Heidlersburg, when it is thought his horse frightened and threw him; and one of his feet being fastened in the stirrup he was dragged some distance, and killed on the spot. His coat and vest were torn off him. He leaves a family to mourn his sudden death. He was a blacksmith, and formerly resided in Gettysburg. He was a brother of the Rev. Mr. Martz, of Harrisburg, formerly of our Seminary, and Lutheran missionary to India.

The Adams Sentinel, Gettysburg, PA 22 Nov 1858
