Lovejoy, PA Skating Rink and Store Fire, Jan 1909

$12,500 FIRE IN LOVEJOY TODAY
Blaze Started In Buterbaugh's Rink and Spread to E. Chait's Store.
LOSSES PROTECTED BY INSURANCE
Fire of supposedly incendiary origin totally destroyed the skating rink, of Sloan Buterbaugh and a dwelling storeroom, owned by H. M. Conrath and occupied by E. Chait, at Lovejoy, about 1 o'clock this morning. The flames started in the skating rink and had communicated to the Conrath building before they were discovered. Valiant efforts were made to save the building but nothing could be done. Several other buildings in the vicinity of the store were in danger but the fire was gotten under control shortly afterwards.
All insurance was written by Parnell, Cowher & Co., of this place. Within the past year the skating rinks, at Patton, Cherrytree, Barnesboro, Blacklick and the present one at Lovejoy have been destroyed by flames.
