Damage at Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa, Jan 10 - A terrific storm of wind, accompanied by torrents of rain swept down the West Branch valley yesterday afternoon.
In this city the damage was particularly severe. A dozen houses were demolished, the Mankey decorative works unroofed and the buildings of the Demorest Sewing Machine company demolished. The damage sustained by the Mankey people will amount to $50,000, and that of the Demorest works $100,000. The brick walls of the foundry department, in course of construction, were razed to the foundation.

At Williamsport, Pa, at least $250,000 damage was done. The Demorest Sewing Machine company’s foundry was quite destroyed; loss, $100,000. A portion of the Manley Decorative works roof was blown off.
Henry Labert was struck by a falling brick, but not seriously injured. Loss, $50,000. A dozen dwellings were unroofed and two or three totally demolished. One building in course of erection was picked up from its foundation and crushed like as if of paper.

At Williamsport the foundry building of the Demorest Sewing Machine Company, 200 feet long by 80 wide, was totally destroyed and a portion of the main structure was unroofed and otherwise damaged. The loss to the Company was estimated at $100,000. Several other buildings were badly damaged, a dozen dwellings were unroofed and two or three totally demolished.
