MILL DESTROYED AT LUMBER CITY.

SAID TO HAVE BEEN OWNED BY WILLIAMSPORT PARTIES.

A Hundred Thousand Feet of Pine and Hemlock Lumber and Two Houses Were Included in the Destruction Wrought by the Fiery Element. An Effort to Get Help From Clearfield Was Unsuccessful.

The Loss Perhaps $5,000.

The DuBois Courier of yesterday morning, says that a saw mill, two houses and one hundred thousand feet of pine and hemlock lumber were destroyed by fire at Lumber City, six miles up the river from Curwensville, on Thursday afternoon.

The fire started in the mill about 3 o’clock. It soon became beyond control and the Clearfield fire department was asked for assistance. The firemen started promptly, but were delayed on he way by a freight train that stalled ahead of them and could not be sidetracked. The fire raged until about 5:30 when it burned itself out.

The property destroyed belonged to Williamsport parties, says the Courier. The loss can not be given, but, at the price lumber is sold at these days, the total will not be less than $5,000. The insurance is not known.

The Gazette and Bulletin last night,, after diligent inquiry, was unable to ascertain who the Williamsport parties are who owned the mill.
