Osterburg, PA Two Automobile Accident, Aug 1928
SIX INJURED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT.
TWO AUTOMOBILES, BOTH OCCUPIED BY JOHNSTOWN PEOPLE, COME TO GRIEF NEAR OSTERBURG, BEDFORD COUNTY.
BROWN LIEBER, aged 22, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lieber of Johnstown, and S. I. KITZMILLER, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kitzmiller of Hay Avenue, Johnstown, are patients in the Nason Hospital, Roaring Springs, and four other persons were treated in Nason Hospital dispensary after an automobile wreck, in which two cars figured, along the concrete highway, near Osterburg, Bedford County last night.
Both machines were traveling towards Bedford and the occupants of both cars were en route to their homes after having attended the Altoons Speedway races.
LIEBER, KITZMILLER and two other young men were the passengers in a new roadster which was badly damaged in the crash. The other machine was of the sedan type and was occupied by two persons. It is said that both cars were speeding and as the one driver attempted to pass the other, the front wheels of the two cars hooked together, throwing both machines from the road.
The roadster veered off the left side of the highway, tore down a long section of fence and then rolled over on its side in an adjoining field. The other car, going off the right side of the highway, was wrecked as it ran into a deep ditch.
Passing motorists took all six injured persons to the office of Dr. C. O. Johnston at Claysburg, who advised the parties to proceed to the hospital in Roaring Springs. After receiving treatment for their injuries, which were slight, four of the injured motorists who refused to divulge their names departed for their homes in Johnstown, with the other two young men being admitted to the institution.
It was learned today that one of the four, who escaped with minor injuries, is WILLIAM McKENZIE a dirt track race driver, who resides in Johnstown.
The roadster, which was disabled in the crash, was towed to a garage in Roaring Springs for repairs.
