FIRE THREATENS TOWN

Lewis Run Homes in Danger From $5000 Blaze.

Special to The Inquirer.

KANE, Pa., Aug. 17.---Lewis Run, a small town near Bradford, was visited early this morning by a $5000 fire, which at one time threatened to destroy the resident section of the town. Three dwelling houses and a general store were destroyed before the Bradford Fire Department reached the scene, the local bucket brigade being unable to check the flames.

At one of the residences destroyed, that of Joseph Ballino, the family of five had a narrow escape from being burned to death, being compelled to jump from the burning building in their night clothing. The other buildings destroyed were the general store of Joseph Ballino and the residences of Clem Fresh and Michael Ross. The origin of the fire is unknown.
