BELLE VERNON MAN KILLED IN BOILER AT MONESSAN MILL

CHARLES MITCHELL aged 54, of Belle Vernon, an employee of the American Sheet and Tin Plate plant at Monessen, met death while at work Saturday morning, although it may be necessary to conduct a post mortem to determine the exact cause of his demise.

MITCHELL was cleaning out boilers and reported for work as usual at 7 o'clock. The man perspired freely while as work in the boiler with the aid of an electric lamp attached to a long cord and used a compressed air cleaner to knock the scale from the side of the boiler. He appeared outside the boiler several times but the last been of him alive was at 9:15. Half an hour later when the foreman and others at work about the plant failed to hear any noise from within the boiler, an investigation was started. The foreman looking in the boiler saw the man sitting on a board with his head drooping over. He was pulled from the boiler and a physician called who pronounced him dead.

Burns were found on his arm, chest and left hand and it is thought that in some manner he was electrocuted although there was but slight voltage carried in the wire to the light. The man's clothing, however, was wet from perspiration and this would add to the danger.

The deceased is a married man residing on Fayette street, Belle Vernon and is survived by his wife, who is a patient in the McKeesport hospital and two married daughters.

Funeral services for CHARLES MITCHELL, of Belle Vernon, will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of John F. Gaul, on the Fayette City road. Interment will be in the Gibsonton cemetery.
