Marcus Hook, PA Run Down By Engine, Sep 1917
RUN DOWN BY A SHIFTING ENGINE.
INJURIES RECEIVED BY THOMAS FLOYD AT MARCUS HOOK RESULTED IN HIS DEATH.
Marcus Hook, Penn. -- While riding on the rear car of a train in the General Chemical Company's plant at Marcus Hook, Saturday, THOMAS FLOYD of this city, was knocked off and run down by a shifting engine, receiving fatal injuries.
The victim's right arm and leg were amputated by the wheels of the engine. He was taken to the Chester Hospital where he expired yesterday morning, about 5 o'clock.
FLOYD was employed as a crane operator at the plant. He leaped on a train of freight cars making its way into the yard, and had is back forward the engine. He stretched his right arm out to signal and in doing so, brushed against another car on a siding. The impact knocked him off and he fell under the wheels of the shifting engine.
The victim was 25 years old and was married. He resided at 223 East Thirteenth street.
Deputy Coroner E. F. White took charge of the body and afterwards had it removed to the FLOYD home.
