Newtown, PA Lodge House Fire, Sep 1917

FIRE AT NEWTOWN.

LODGE HOUSE ON THE RUSSELL ESTATE DESTROYED, CAUSING A LOSS OF $3,000.

Newton, Penn. -- Fire, originating in the boiler room, destroyed the lodge house on the RUSSELL estate at Newtown Square last midnight. An alarm was telephoned to the Media Fire Company, who responded with the Newtown Fire Company, but could do little to save the property because of the rapid progress of the flames.
The fire was discovered by an inmate of the building, who had been aroused by the explosion caused by the boilers bursting. The RUSSELL estate is situated along the Line road, and the flames, leaping high into the air, attracted scores of residents of that section. The building with its effects was a total loss. Whether or not the damage is covered by insurance could not be learned this morning. The loss is fixed at $3,000.
