Scranton, PA Drug Store Fire, Aug 1882

OTHER FIRES.

The building used as the drug store and old warehouse of Matthews Brothers, in Lackawanna-avenue, in the heart of Scranton, Penn., was destroyed by fire yesterday morning. It is thought their loss will not fall short of $25,000. The building and stock are insured for $14,000, of which $4,000 are in the Guardian, of London; the Fire Association of Philadelphia and the Star, of New-York; in the Niagara, and $2,500 in the Home, of New-York. During the progress of the fire several persons were slightly injured by the falling debris. Nothing but the energetic efforts of the firemen saved the entire block from destruction.
