Adams, PA Train And Auto Collision, Oct 1965
THREE YOUTHS DIE IN WRECK.
VICTIMS WERE RESIDENTS OF NEARBY PENNSYLVANIA.
The carnage on area highways was high over the weekend with the latest reported being the deaths of three young area Pennsylvanians on a B & O Railroad crossing last night near Somerset.
Pennsylvania State Police identified the victims as CHARLES M. HENRY, 17, of Rockwood; and DOROTHY SLOPE, 15, and PATRICIA SNYDER, 12, both of Berlin.
In the latest mishap, authorities said the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at Somerset Community Hospital.
Admitted to the hospital with serious injuries were LARRY GRIFFITH, 15, Somerset, and DEBORAH COLEY, 14, of Irwin, Pa. Their conditions at noon today were reported as "critical."
State Police, who identified HENRY as the driver of the car said the mishap occurred on a secondary road near Adams, Pa., about six miles north of Somerset.
Authorities said the engineer on the train was ALLEN SISLER of Hyndman. The 23-car train was traveling from Johnstown to Cumberland. Police said the train crew escaped injury.
Authorities today continued their investigation of the accident. They stated that the car was crossing the tracks when it was rammed. The crossing a secondary one, is not governed by lights or a watchman.
