Philipsburg, PA Private Plane Crash, Mar 1965

PRIVATE PLANE CRASHES -- KILLING 2 AND INJURING ONE.

Philipsburg, Pa. -- A twin-engined plane, caught in a snowstorm and carrying business executives, crashed and burned at the Mid-State Airport in Philipsburg, Pa.
Pilot JOHN HUNT of Denver and JOHN R. HOPKINS, president of Protecto Wrap Company of Denver, were missing and believed dead. A passenger, HOWARD SCUDDER, 38, vice president of Protecto Wrap, was found several yards from the wreckage. He suffered a broken wrist and head injuries.
The plane, a Lockheed Lodestar propeller-driven craft, had reported trouble shortly before attempting a landing at the central Pennsylvania airport. It crashed into a wooded area about 200 yards short of a runway.
The Federal Aviation Authority reported the airport was "socked in" at the time, with more than 13 inches of snow already on the ground.
