Connellsville, PA (near) Private Plane Crash, May 1966
FATAL TRIP STARTED BY ALESSANDRONI FROM SUMMER HOME.
Ocean City, N.J. (UPI) -- State Atty. Gen. WALTER ALESSANDRONI and his wife, ETHEL, found dead in the wreckage of a twin-engine plane in western Pennsylvania late Monday, owned a summer home at this seashore resort.
They had left on the ill-fated flight to Connellsville, Pa. from nearby Atlantic City Sunday afternoon.
Also killed in the crash were JAMES E. STAUDINGER of Abington, Pa., a member of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, who was picked up in Harrisburg, Pa., to accompany the attorney general on a speaking engagement, and the pilot, MELVIN E. LADIN of Collingswood, N.J.
The ALESSANDRONIS had spent the weekend at their home at 25 W. 17th St., in the swank Lagoon section here. They had maintained the home year-round for a number of years.
ALESSANDRONI was a past commodore of the Ocean City Yacht Club and, with his son, GENE, had piloted a speedboat in club races. He and his wife frequently attended the club dances.
The younger ALESSANDRONI had been a summer patrolman with the Ocean City Police Department.
Pilot LADIN was a bachelor in his late 20's who flew a plane out of a north Philadelphia airport for a realty firm. His parents live in Philadelphia. He formerly worked at the Flying W Ranch, New Medford. The plane LADIN piloted Sunday was chartered in Collingswood.
