DAMAGE WAS DONE BY POWDER EXPLOSION
Four Persons Injured. A Baby’s Miraculous escape.
Punxsutawney, Pa. Mar. 10--A keg of powder exploded here Monday, injuring four persons and wrecking a double house belonging to the Punxsutawney Coal Company. An infant, thrown 20 feet from its mother’s arms, did not receive a scratch. The injured:
Ralph Childs, burns and bruises.
Mrs. Childs, bruises.
Mrs. Mary Gamato, hands and face burned.
Louis Gamato, burned over body.
All but Mrs. Childs, were taken to the hospital. The injured were in the kitchen when a keg of powder behind the stove, from some unknown cause, exploded. Mrs. Childs was just leaving the room with a little child in her arms. The mother was blown under a bed while the child landed on top of it. The other struck the walls near the ceiling and escaped being crushed by the collapsing roof only through the walls falling out. The family occupying the other side of the house escaped unhurt.
