Holiday Climber Killed in Fall From Mount Hood

MOUNT HOOD, Ore., Sept. 6 (UP)---Miss Helen Lowry, 32 year old Portland (Ore.) librarian and expert mountain climber, was killed Monday when she fell from a cliff on Mount Hood on to the Eliot Glacier.

Miss Lowry was on a Labor Day hiking trip with members of the Mazamas (Ore.) hiking group. The party was on the north slope of the mountain and she slipped from near the top of Cooper Spur over a cliff. Fresh snow a few days ago added to the hazards of the climb, forest rangers said.
