Oregon Forest Fires, Aug 1910 - second article

FLORA, OREGON, DESTROYED.

The thriving little town of Flora, Or., has been destroyed, according to reports which reached Asotin, Wash., last night. The flames came from the forests on the south side of the Blue Mountains, goaded by a high wind. The town is in ruins and its 400 inhabitants are homeless. Communication with the stricken village is cut off.

SAWMILL AT GOBLE BURNED

Farmers in Vicinity of Rainier Lose Buildings and Implements.

RAINIER, Or., Aug. 25.---The Globe Mill Company this morning lost its sawmill at Goble, the loss aggravating $30,000.

J. K. Bourne, a farmer near this place, lost his two barns, machinery, implements, buggies and fencing amounting to $2500. John C. Wilders, another farmer, lost his home and everything he owned except the bare land. His loss is $2000. L. E. Gulker, a farmer back of Rainier, lost his home and contents, the loss aggregating nearly $1000.

Wells & Labor's sawmill and camp is threatened and the H. Hall Lumber Company's plant is surrounded on three sides.

FIRE CHIEFLY IN CLEARINGS.

Damage Done to Sorenson Company's Buildings and Railroad.

ASTORIA, Or., Aug. 25.----(Special.)---The forest fire which started on the McIntire ranch, near Svensen, yesterday afternoon and spread to the Sorensen Logging Company's tract is traveling into the Little Walluski and Walluski River districts. All the buildings of the Sorensen Company, a large quantity of supplies and a considerable portion of the men's personal effects were burned and about four miles of the company's railroad, including several trestles, were destroyed, entailing a loss of $30,000. The flames were confined principally to the cleared district. The company's logging equipment was saved, the donkey engines being buried to protect them.

A house and barn belonging to Jacob Sold, a rancher, were burned, and reports say that in the Bear Creek district some live timber was damaged. It is believed that all danger in the Sorensen Company's holding is past.
