PORTLAND CHIEF IS KILLED.

DIES IN EXPLOSION WHILE FIGHTING OIL WAREHOUSE FIRE.

Portland, Ore., June 26. -- Chief DAVID CAMPBELL of the Portland fire department was instantly killed today and three firemen received serious injuries in a blaze at the plant of the Oil company on the East Side.
CAMPBELL had led a small squad of firemen into the blazing warehouse when an explosion occurred.
Two of them were hurled back through the door and CAMPBELL was not seen again. His body was recovered.
