Gage, OK Tornado, Jul 1909
Editor's Daughter Has Narrow Escape.
Special To The News.
Gage, Ok., July 23.---A severe storm visited Gage during the past week. C. T. Trisler suffered the severest loss so far as any reported, his fine barn being completely demolished. Stub Henderson's house was removed from the foundation, and a number of outbuildings were upset. Down in town a number of windows were blown in, among them being a section of C. A, Lamb's glass front. The West Side Pool Hall also lost one section of its roof. The only injury of personal nature so far reported was sustained by Frances, the little daughter of Mrs. Maude Hawkins, editor of the Republican, who was struck on the head by the falling of a cave door which was torn from her mother's grasp as she held it for her little daughter to enter the storm cave. The blow was materially lessened by Mrs. Hawkin's effort in trying to hold the door, otherwise the child would have been killed instantly.
