Ardmore, OK (near) Bomber Crash, Feb 1944

TEN KILLED IN BOMBER CRASH.

Ardmore, Okla. (AP) -- Ten of 11 officers and men aboard an army Flying Fortress were killed when the craft crashed and burned 20 miles east of here while on a routine flight, Col. Donald W. Eisenhart announced Sunday.
Eisenhart, commander of the 395th combat crew training school, said Cpl. JAMES W. CLANAHAN
(address unavailable), a gunner, parachuted safely when the bomber, based at the Ardmore army air field, encountered trouble about 6 o'clock last night.
The army released the following list of dead:
Capt. WILLIAM R. HECK, Ardmore, pilot.
Lt. ROBERT N. BULLOCK, Cedar City, Utah, co-pilot.
Lt. COLLINS Q. GERSTNER, Minneapolis, Minn., navigator.
2nd Lt. JACK L. RIDER, Glendale, Calif., bombardier.
Capt. OSWALD L. BERNICK, Biloxi, Miss., bombardier instructor.
Sgt. ALBERT F. FRANCZYK, East Vandergrift, Pa., oxygen instructor.
Cpl. ANTHONY S. CASINO, Follansbee, West Va., assistant engineer.
Sgt. ROY N. WISE, Texarkana, Ark., radioman.
Sgt. LESLIE C. HILL, Medford, Ore., gunner.
Sgt. JACK W. ASBA, Danville, Ill., engineer.
A board of officers was investigating the crash.
