McCurtain, OK Coal Mine Explosion, Mar 1912

An explosion rocked Mine No. 2 of the San Bois Coal Company in McCurtain, Oklahoma in March 1912, trapping 98 men. Twenty-five of the miners were rescued. The other 73 weren't so lucky and perished in the explosion. It was and still is one of the worst mining disasters in the state of Oklahoma.
