STRICKEN WITH HEART DISEASE, DROWNS QUICKLY
LOUIS HELMLINGLER FALLS FROM BOAT TO DEATH AT LAKEVIEW.
LAKEVIEW, Ohio, June 18--- (Special) Stricken with an attack of hear disease while returning from a day's fishing trip, LOUIS HELMLINGLER of near Jackson Center, fell from a boat and was drowned late Wednesday afternoon. His body remained beneath six feet of water for an hour, when it was found by one of the score or more of men who had formed a hasty band of searchers.
Helmlingler, a well-known farmer, had driven to Lakeview in his machine for a day's fishing. He was accompanied by three of his children, but they were not fishing from the same boat with him. His only companion at the time of the fatality was Cliff Zanschoyek of Waynesfield, and the latter was doing the rowing, when Helmlinger, seated in the stern of the boat, fell backward into the water. As his body sank, he threw up his hands with a helpless gesture, and made no effort whatever to swim. This was in spite of the fact that he had told his companion only a few hours earlier that he could swim all over Indian lake without getting tired. S. S. Yoesting, of Bellefontaine, was standing on the bank of the reservoir, and saw the accident, adding his testimony to that of the frightened companion of the dead man.
Pursuant with the stories of the two men, the county coroner, Dr. F. R. Makenison, of Lewiston, gave a verdict of heart disease. The body was taken to the home, where a widow and eight children survive, the youngest only 5 years of age. The funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 at the Helmlinger Congregational church. Interment will be made in the cemetery nearby. The members of the Wapakoneia Aerie of Eagles will attend the funeral in a body, as the deceased was a member of that order.
