Abanaka Station, OH Train Wreck, Aug 1883
A passenger train on the Toledo, Cincinnati and St. Louis Narrow-gauge railroad, was thrown front the track near Abanaka Station, on Tuesday of last week, caused by one of the engine trucks climbing the rail. The engine and baggage car were turned over in a ditch, and Charlie H. Clark, the engineer, was badly scalded. He was taken to Delphos, and everything was done for him that medical skill could suggest, but he had inhaled the steam to such an extent that all efforts were unavailing, and he lingered in agony until Saturday evening when death come to his relief.
Charlie Clark was only twenty-four years old, being the son of Charles Clark, of Cambridge. He left this place last February to accept a position on the railroad where he lost his life. His wife and child were visiting here at the time of the accident. His remains were brought here for interment, accompanied by C. Jackson and John Gaw, of the Engineer's Brotherhood, and Fireman Lem Likes. The funeral services on Monday afternoon were conducted by Rev. Dr. McFarland.
It is understood that he had two thousand dollars insurance on his life.
