TWO TRAMPS IN WRECKAGE OF BIG FOUR FREIGHT EARLY TUESDAY.

MAUDS' STATION.

DRAW BAR BROKE, DERAILING FREIGHT AND PILING UP CARS.

Special To The Journal.
Mauds, Oct. 24. -- About 4 o'clock Tuesday morning a freight wreck occurred on the Big Four railroad about a mile north of Mauds to south-bound train No. 71, as a result of a drawbar pulling and dropping to the track. As a result six cars were derailed and ditched blocking the road.
The train was running at a high speed and the cars were wrecked with contents and piled in a heap.
Five of the cars contained a consignment of automobiles, which were more or less damaged beyond repair. The remaining car contained merchandise.
In examining the wreckage it was discovered that three tramps who were stealing a ride on the train went down with the wrecked cars. One who was riding under one of the cars was rescued without being fatally injured. He told of the other hobos who were still under the wreckage. The wrecking train, which has been sent, will be necessary to locate the two missing tramps and rescue them. The loss caused by the wreck will be fully $15,000, the value of the automobiles alone being over $5,000. As a result of the wreck all Big Four trains were obliged to detour via the C. H. & D. railway. One of the first was the Arkansas Product exhibition train of seven cars with lecturers.
