ONE DEAD IN BOAT EXPLOSION.

FOUR PROBABLY MORTALLY INJURED ON THE STEAMER JAMES H. HOYT.

Painesville, Ohio, May 15. -- One man was killed, four others probably mortally injured, and the engineer slightly injured as the result of an explosion of a flue in the boiler on the steamer JAMES H. HOYT three miles off Fairport Harbor to-day. The names of the men killed and injured were not made known. The four injured men were taken to the hospital here. All were badly scalded by escaping steam.
The HOYT was on her way from Cleveland to Ashtabula to load coal. She is owned by the Provident Steamship Company of Duluth, and operated by PICKANDS, MATHER & Co. of Cleveland. The boat is in charge of Capt. FRANK L. MENO of St. Clair, Mich.
