RAILROAD COLLISION

CINCINNATI, June 18. -- A Lawrenceburg special to the Chronicle and Times says that about nine o'clock this morning, on the Indianapolis, Cincinnati & Lafayette Railroad, as the express train west, which leaves Cincinnati at 7:30 was approaching Elizabethtown, twenty miles out, came to collision with a special train from St. Louis, containing several hundred persons returning from the Saengerfest, resulting in the death of one of the excursionist named SENTER, of Cincinnati, who was standing on the rear platform of the second passenger coach, and was most horribly crushed between that and the the[sic] third car. Several other passengers on the special train were slightly injured, and the cars badly damaged. Both engines were thrown from the track. The engine of the special train was rendered useless, having its cylinders and boiler knocked to pieces. It seems that the regular train had orders to take the side track at Elizabethtown, but was some minutes behind time and was standing on the main track. Had the regular train been in motion the loss of life would have been great.
