TRAIN DITCHED; TWO DIE.

Score of Passengers Also Hurt by Hocking Valley Wreck in Ohio.

UPPER SANDUSKY, O., Oct. 20.---Two women were killed and a score of other passengers were hurt this morning when three coaches of a Hocking Valley passenger train, north-bound, were ditched half a mile south of Harpster in this county.

The train was running at a high rate of speed. it is not know what caused the wreck.

One of the two dead is Mrs. Mary Cook, Crogan, Ohio. The other is an unidentified nurse.

The train does not stop at Harpster, and as the engine whistled for the station warning a swaying or the train was the first intimation of the disaster. The tender was apparently the first to leave the tracks. It pounded along on the ties a considerable distance after the engineer applied the brakes.

A moment later the two day coaches and the chair car left the rails, and turned over in the ditch on the right side of the track.

Residents from neighboring farm houses and those on the train who were not hurt carried the dead and injured to adjacent houses. Telephone calls to Harpster and this city secured the aid of physicians.

Hocking Valley Train Derailed and Two Women Lose Lives.

COLUMBUS, O., Oct. 20,---Hocking Valley passenger train No. 33, northbound, was derailed one mile south of Harpster, O., today, and two passengers were killed and 25 persons were injured. The dead:

Mrs. MARY ANN COOK, 81 years old, Bluffton, O.
UNKNOWN WOMAN, thought to be Toledo nurse, aged about 35.

The railway officials seem unable to account for the wreck.

Two Killed and Twenty-five Injured in the Second Wreck in Month.

Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 20.---Hocking Valley passenger train No. 33, northbound, was derailed one mile south of Harpster, Ohio, at 10:30 a.m. today, and two passengers were killed and 25 persons were injured.

The dead:

Mrs. MARY ANN COOK, 81, Bluffton, Ohio.
UNKNOWN WOMAN, thought to be Toledo nurse, aged about 35.

Fatally Injured:

David THOMPSON,
Leroy Kane [?], back severely injured and two ribs fractured.
Mrs. THOMPSON, his wife, back broken, legs paralyzed.

The railway officials are puzzled to account for the wreck. The same train was derailed for the wreck. The same train was derailed near Lemoyne, Ohio, Sept. 12. At that time, as today, it was traveling fast and was drawn by a new type of heavy locomotive. In the first wreck the engine left the rails and turned over. Today the tender and coaches were ditched, but the locomotive held its place.
