Cincinnati, OH Street Car Runaway Crashes, Dec 1906
30 HURT IN CAR RUNAWAY.
TURNS OVER AFTER FIVE-BLOCK DASH DOWN HILL.
Telegraph Pole Stops Flight of Cincinnati Street Car -- Passengers Hurled Into the Mud.
Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 20 -- At least thirty persons were injured, one of whom, DANIEL KERNAN, a passenger, has since died, in the wreckage to-day of a runaway electric car on Warsaw avenue hill. The injured include:
CATHERINE O'HARA.
J. E. LOWMAN, conductor, may die.
JAMES HALL, motorman.
FRANK GANZEL, may die.
GEORGE WANNIGER.
MR. and MRS. JOHN HENRY.
REV. I. BANTLEY, back broken.
MISS MARTHA BILL, broken leg.
JAMES CORCORAN.
MR. and MRS. BORKEN, both unconscious at hospital.
EDNA and MARTHA LONGDALE.
The motorman discovered at the top of the hill that he had lost control of the car, and tried to use the emergency brakes, but it failed. The car ran away for five blocks, struck a telegraph pole and turned over. The passengers were thrown in the mud. HIRAM LEISTER, a passenger, by operating the brake on the rear platform, reduced the speed on the car materially before it left the track.
The Washington Post District Of Columbia 1906-12-31
