Many Fatalities Reported.

Columbus, Ohio, Mar. 15.----According to S. C. Robinson, who returned to-day from a trip through the Hocking Valley, the damage done by the flood will reach 500,000. Twelve persons were drowned at Athens and three at Nelsonville. There were many narrow escapes.

"When the levees burst at Nelsonville," said Robinson, "the water roared down into the city at the rate of fifteen miles an hour, drowning a family of three persons. The waters of the river bore down on the house, and they were caught helpless. James Dean was caught in Main street and washed 150 yards before he caught hold of a tree. He was rescued in a boat.

Loss of a Million.

Nelsonville, O., March 18.---Nelsonville will suffer $1,000,000 loss on account of the high water, which is now leaving many homes and business houses in a most deplorable condition. The Hocking river has been before, and in its wake it left nothing but destruction and want.

BABY IN AWFUL FLOOD

A five-year-old Coshocton boy has been in imminent danger of the great flood at Nelsonville. He is the little son of S. M. Butts, the South Seventh street grocer, and has been visiting his aunt there. The Hocking river burst its levee Thursday night, railway depots were washed away, and havoc done. The town was flooded, and residents, were taken from their homes in boats at 2 a. m. The water was 4 feet high in Mr. Butts' sister's home when they escaped. Many were drowned, and food is being sent from other towns.
