A $750,000 FIRE IN DAYTON DESTROYS SEVERAL LARGE PLANTS.

Dayton, Oct. 21. -- An estimated loss of nearly $750,000 was caused by fire that early today destroyed the plants of the Dayton Computing Scale company, the Pasteur Chamberlain Filter company, the Graves & Marshall Foundry company and the Big Four freight depot and office. The scale company's loss was $300,000. The fire was one of the most destructive in the city's history.
According to Night Watchman A. M. Reese, the blaze started in the paint room on the top floor of the scale company's building. A gale was blowing and in less than fifteen minutes after the alarm was turned in the structure was completely aflame. It was not until 6 o'clock this morning, six hours after the fire started, that the blaze was under control. Other plants and buildings damaged are:
National Oil Tank and Pump company.
J. A. Stuart's restaurant.
O. F. Klees Bottling works.
Cooper Medicine company.
Dayton Steam Boiler works.
Dayton Motor Car company.
The William Whitmore Coal company.
Most of the property is well covered by insurance.
