Van Wert, OH Auto Accident, Nov 1956

VAN WERT ACCIDENT TAKES FOURTH LIFE.

Van Wert -- Death claimed the last of a Cleveland couple's four children in Van Wert County Hospital yesterday. All died violently.
CONNIE THOMAS, 15, daughter of MR. and MRS. EDWARD THOMAS, died at 3:30 p.m. from injuries received in a Friday auto crash west of here. Her death brought to four the number of lives lost as a result of the accident.
Another daughter, SHARON, 10, was killed in the smashup and a 4-month-old son, JOE, died early yesterday from a skull fracture received in the crash.
DAVID ALSPACH, 25, a Van Wert undertaker, was electrocuted when he touched wires carrying 7,000 volts which lay over the mangled THOMAS car.
The condition of CONNIE THOMAS had grown progressively weaker since the crash in which both lungs were collapsed.
The teenager had been pinned in the car wreckage for more than an hour before she could be taken to the Van Wert hospital.
MR. and MRS. THOMAS were reported in "fair" condition at the hospital last night.
They lost another daughter a year ago when she drowned in Lake Erie.
THOMAS was driving on Route 224 when he crashed into the power pole.
Bodies of the dead children are in Knoll-Brickner-Didrick Funeral Home pending arrangement of last rites.
