TEN KILLED IN FARGO TORNADO

Massive Funnel Cuts 20-Block Path Ruin

Six of Dead Children in GERALD MUNSON Family; Over 200 Homes Either Damaged or in Ruins.

Fargo, N. D. (AP) – A giant tornado, striking from a lethal cloud tower more than 10 miles high, smashed through 100 blocks of a Fargo residential area Thursday night, bringing death to ten persons, six of them the children of one family.

At least 96 more were injured, some critically.

The massive, black funnel lashed a swath of devastation 20 blocks long and five wide.

The dead included all six children of the GERALD MUNSON family. They ranged in age from 1 to 16. The mother was hospitalized for shock.

One of the MUNSON children, LOIS ANN, 2, died of injuries early this morning. The body of a young girl was found later by searchers probing ruins of a wrecked house. She was not immediately identified.

Damage was estimated at 15 million dollars.

Mayor HERSCHEL LASHKOWITZ made the damage estimate.

He said 500 homes, a high school and four churches were destroyed and that many other buildings and vehicles were damaged.

2,000 HOMELESS
The mayor said he was asking federal aid to provide housing for 2,000 persons made homeless by the storm.

The tornado struck the city's northwest corner, hitting first about a mile west of 29th Street North.
