Five Plants Burn At Salisbury, N.C.

Factories With Total Loss of About $30,000.

Salisbury, N.C., April 2.-The most dangerous fire in the history of the city broke out here this morning at 7:30 o’clock, and burned until 9:30 o’clock, completely destroying the manufacturing block just east of the passenger depot, located on the old Lanier lot.

Five manufacturing plants were completely destroyed, and the loss is roughly estimated at between $25,000 and $30,000.

All trains were blocked for an hour on account of the fire, which was difficult to check because of low water pressure, wind and lack of hose.

At one time six buildings were burning.

The fire originated in the wood working plant of Hartman & Gaither, from the engine, the flames being first discovered in the roof.

V. Wallace & Sons, owners of the burned buildings; R.G. Martin, contractor and the Barber Buggy and Wagon Company are the chief losers.
