Blissville, NY Fell in Pool of Acid, Aug 1897
FELL IN A POOL OF ACID.
John Shaess Received Injuries Which Will Cause His Death.
While gathering firewood around the works of the Kings County Oil Company, at Blissville, L. I., yesterday, John Shaess, aged seventeen years, was seized with an epileptic fit, and fell in an open pool of sulphuric [sic] acid and naphtha, the refuse of the works. The boy managed to crawl out of the pool, and fell unconscious on the ground, where he was found by Watchman Lawrence a few moments later.
The boy’s body was frightfully burned. An ambulance was summoned, and the lad was taken to St. John’s Hospital, where it is said that he would not recover. His home is with a widowed mother, on Star Street, Blissville.
