Mount Hope, NY Mountain View Hotel Fire, Jun 1909

SUMMER HOTEL BURNED.

Guests of an Orange County Inn Found Shelter In Farmhouses.

Special to The New York Times.

MIDDLETOWN, N. Y., June 27.---The Mountain View Summer hotel in the town of Mount Hope, near this city, was burned last night, with all its contents. The fire started about 8:30 o'clock in the evening from a defective chimney, and had gained such headway before it was discovered that only a few articles of furniture could be saved. A number of Summer visitors at the hotel saved most of their effects and sought shelter in near-by farmhouses.

The hotel was owned and managed by Edward Caldwell of New York, and accommodated fifty guests. A barn adjoining the hotel was also destroyed.
