TERRIBLE ACCIDENT NEAR SCHAGHTICOKE.-----

Four Men Killed.----A very melancholy accident occurred on Monday, on the line of the Albany and Rutland Railroad, four miles from Schaghticoke, by which four men were killed instantly, and one seriously injured. The men were engaged in digging out a culvert, in an embankment under the track, which had become filled up with sand, and prevented the passenger of water. They had penetrated under the bank some distance, and were busy digging out the iron pipe laid for the passage of the water, when the bank came rushing down on both sides, with the speed of lightning. Eight were in the ditch at the time, including Mr. Story, the Superintendent of the work. He, with three others, miraculously escaped. Four of the men were buried several feet deep in the gravel and sand, the fifth man's life was preserved by the promptness of Mr. Story and companions. The bodies of the four men were recovered about three hours afterwards, and were buried at Schaghticoke. We were unable to learn their names. They were all natives of Ireland. The break did not affect the track.----Albany Knickerbocker.
