Wells Bridge, NY Train Wreck, Mar 1891
FATAL RAILROAD WRECK.
WELLS BRIDGE, N. Y., March 27.----Passenger train No. 4 on the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, which left Binghamton at 12:40 P.M. to-day for Albany, crashed into Accommodation Train No. 17 about a mile east of Wells Bridge. Conductor Frank Vincent, in charge of Train No. 4, had been telegraphed orders to side-track his train at Wells Bridge, but of some reason ran by. Engineer Frank White of Train No.4 has an arm broken, and Fireman Fred Pierce was caught between the engine and tender and crushed to death. Engineer William La grange and Fireman Fred Cooper of Train No. 17 were both injured, the former perhaps fatally. All these men resided in Binghamton, where Pierce leaves a wife and two children. The wreck took fire and several freight cars were burned. No passengers were injured.
