Rhinebeck, NY Drownings, Jan 1860
EIGHT DEATHS BY DROWNING.---Eight persons were drowned near Rhinebeck, N. Y., on Tuesday last. A party of twenty or twenty-five persons from the opposite side of the river were crossing on the ice in a large covered sleigh drawn by four horses, when the ice gave way and the sleigh went down, carrying with it eight of the passengers, who were drowned. All but eight succeeded in getting out of the sleigh before it went down.
