Wellsville, NY Storm, Feb 1887
Wellsville, N.Y., and other places in Allegany County also experienced the force of the wind this morning. About 10:30 o'clock a tornado struck the valley at a point about two and a half miles east of Wellsville where a number of large oil tanks and an oil pump station of the National Transit Company are located. The pump station was a brick structure solidly built and was supposed to be able to withstand any pressure. When it was struck, however, it was unroofed and in an instant the walls collapsed, burying William Dillon and George Porch in the ruins. The men were supposed to be dead, but after much exertion on the part of rescuers they were taken out alive, but seriously, perhaps fatally, injured. Several farm buildings in the vicinity were wrecked and much damaged and it is difficult to get particulars. Thus far no loss of life has been reported.
