DC6 AIR LINER CRASHES, 3 DIE.
Ronkonkoma (AP) -- A DC6 air liner crashed and burned on take-off yesterday and three United Airlines pilots were killed.
There were no passengers aboard the plane, which was making a routine pilot check flight from MacArthur Airport near here.
Dead were:
HENRY DOZIER, 40, of Montclair, N. J.
STANLEY C. HOYT, 45, of Hicksville.
VERNIS H. WEBB, 35, of New York City.
The four-engine plane, owned by United, was taking off at 3:51 p. m. (EST) when, about 150 feet in the air, it suddenly dived and crashed.
The big airliner exploded and caught fire. Debris was scattered over a quarter of a mile.
The bodies of the three men were brought out before the flames spread throughout the plane.
