White Sulphur Springs, NY Train - Auto Wreck, Jul 1912
R. Livingston Beeckman, who has survived more railroad, polo, and yachting accidents than any other member of Newport society, before his departure this week was in a railroad accident near White Sulphur Springs, in which the two engines attached to his private car, Columbia, were thrown from the track. By great good fortune, however, no one was injured, although the accident occurred on a high embankment and might have resulted seriously. After a dinner on his car Mr. Beeckman was taking Mr. and Mrs. Edward Crozier, Mrs, Newbold Etting, and H. Yale Dolan of Philadelphia on a jaunt to White Sulphur Springs, where they expected to arrive at 11 o'clock in the evening. The engines attached to the car ran into an open switch fourteen miles this side of White Sulphur and were derailed, causing a five-hour delay and obliging the party, with a band of negro musicians and Sandy, Mr. Beeckman's Scotch terrier, to remain on board overnight.
