Albany, NY Railroad Shops Fire, Apr 1904

FLAMES SWEEP RAILROAD SHOPS
BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
ALBANY, April, 27.---(Wednesday).---Thirty day coaches and several dining and one private car were destroyed in a fire which burned the coach shop of the West Albany shops of the New York Central Railroad this morning, entailing a loss of $300,000.
The fire broke out in the paint and oil section of the shop which was 200 feet long by 70 feet wide and at first was fought by the employes[sic] of the company. Several explosions occurred, scattering the flames, which enveloped a number of cars standing on the tracks near by, which could not be dragged out of the way before the fire touched them. It is believed that one of the [ineligible] St. Louis exposition trains is among the destroyed coaches. The entire shop is a loss.
