THREE KILLED AT NIAGARA FALLS.

TWO WOMEN AND MAN CRUSHED IN SHALE SLIDE UNDER CATARACT.

Niagara Falls, N.Y., Sept. 6. -- Two women and a man were crushed to death and two men were injured today whan a slide of shale forced out a bridge leading to one of the stairways in the Cave of the Winds, under Niagara Falls. A hundred or more tourists who were in the cave at the time had narrow escapes, many being bruised and cut by the falling rock.
The dead and injured were tourists just completing a tour of the cave.
The party was in the middle of one of the four bridges in the cave when the slide came. Its noise drowned by the roar of the cataract. The guide was not touched.
To recover the bodies of the dead it was necessary to take a rowboat from the Maid of the Mist steamer, which had been run up as near as possible to the falls and cave. It was a hazardous venture but the rowboat crew finally brought the bodies out of the pool and regained the steamer.
The accident is the first of the kind in the cave since the first stairway was built in 1853. There have been slides before but only in the winter or early spring.

How can I find out the names of the tourists who were killed?

Niagara falls NY

Many accounts have been made of accidents and suicides in the Niagara falls NY. Had heard of man between 35 and 40, who was suffering from a large wound to his forehead and severe hypothermia when he was pulled from the icy depths. He was fully clothed when he went in, but came out naked after his rescue, likely because his garb was pulled off by the force of the currents. He becomes one of only about 17 people to ever go over Niagara Falls and survive.

My Graet Grand parents

Two of the people killed were my great grand parents, Arnold Hartman and Louise Hartman.
I have so many differant stories along the years but now I finally know how they passed.
My great grandfather took my great grandmother here as kind of a honeymoon they never had.
It breaks my heart to know that they still never got to have that honeymoon or maybe they did and then they completed their
journey here on earth, I wish I could know them and maybe someday I will. R.I.P Grand Dad Arnold and Grand ma Louise!
Gone but never forgotten. We all have love for you!!! Love Angela Hartman
